Chaand has made a few shorts. Although majority of her time was spent running her own Theatre Company- NAVRANG THEATRE (New Vision) which she founded in 1993. She wrote, produced and directed several plays including four of her own plays, namely:

  1. Old flame
  2. Leave My Hair Alone
  3. But I told you not to
  4. Tongue tired
  5. Tet-e-Tet and others plays (new writing in collaboration with other women writers)

Navrang Theatre was invited to –LILIAN BAYLIS THEATRE in 1993 to perform for an older audience, celebrating- ‘International year of the senior Citizens’. Several of her plays and of other writers were performed at: Waterman’s Arts centre, Etcetera Theatre in Camden, Paul Robeson Theatre in Hounslow. Her – ‘one woman Show’: LEAVE MY HAIR ALONE participated in a theatre festival at the Watermans theatre then was invited to a ‘Theatre festival’ in Birmingham in the late 90s. She wrote, produced, directed and designed this show. Later this ‘One woman Show’ was invited to Loughborough university theatre in 2001.

She was interviewed by ‘SCOTSMAN’.

Chaand was invited on the radio show two weeks in a row in Edinburgh. In 1995 London Borough of Hounslow organised a performance of her- one woman show: LEAVE MY HAIR ALONE at the Civic Centre in Hounslow to celebrate the – women’s International day in. The performance ran for 70 minutes but the after discussion lasted for another 90 minutes.

The same – One woman show: Leave My Hair Alone was invited to Darwin in 1996 where it got excellent reviews, a precursor to the festival, later in Adelaide Fringe (Australia). Navrang theatre also performed in Chandigarh – India on the invitation of – ‘Indian Express’ a leading national daily.

Her stage play – ‘A breath of fresh air’ won her first prize in a – playwriting competition organised by the Borough of Hounslow in 1985. LBC had indicated funding it as a radio Play.

Other activities:

Navrang theatre – took it upon itself to use their performing skills to contribute to the community: by running –

  1. Assertive Training workshops- for the Asian women, which had immense effect in raising their self-esteem.
  2. Navrang Theatre: helped women- victims of domestic violence by conducting group discussions to air their views in a safe environment. It allowed those women to speak openly about their fears and concerns.
  3. CVS FILMS: uses drama and performing skills in schools to raise awareness amongst students about various communities with whom they share social space. The workshops helped in promoting harmony and understanding.
  4. Chaand is planning to write a book about the – Making of her first feature. She intends to call this book: I’ll Delete your film…unless!!!
  5. Another book she is planning to write is about sexual harassment.
